Description

Is responsible to the Fire Chief and acting company officer for responding to fire calls, participates in fire suppression activities and responds to, and participates in, requests for emergency medical care, hazardous materials incidents and other calls for assistance to the public within the scope of the department.  Work involves responsibility for specialized duties under emergency conditions, which involve personal hazard.  Is committed to the mission, vision, and values of the City through ethical conduct, community stewardship, individual initiative and responsive service.  Demonstrates leadership, management and technical skills through effective collaboration, using team resources, progressive decision making and personal responsibility.

Able to climb ladders, scaffolding, work at heights and carry items of at least 50 + pounds unassisted • An oral interview, drug test, and background investigation must be passed by successful candidate. • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must have the ability and willingness to learn to safely operate all City vehicles, equipment, and tools. • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. • Valid State driver’s license maintained throughout course of employment with the city EMT EMT-B or Paramedic Certification Firefighter II Certification

Additional Skills/Requirements: The City of Montgomery is conducting an examination process to establish an eligible list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. To apply online, visit www.montgomeryohio.gov. Completed application, resume and cover letter along with all required certifications must be received by 4:00PM, Sunday, September 13, 2026.

The written examination and agility test is scheduled to be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 (Time and location to be provided to applicants registered for the written examination & agility test. Individuals must follow application procedures and meet requirements in order to be registered for the exam.)

Candidates who successfully pass the written examination and agility test will receive instructions for completing the oral examination. The oral examination is scheduled for Monday, September 21, 2026, and Tuesday, September 22, 2026, as needed.

Candidate Requirements
• In order to take the written examination and agility test, applicants must have a high school diploma/GED, be a minimum of 18 years old, and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Applicants must possess a current Ohio EMT certification and current Ohio Firefighter II certification.
• Applicants must possess a current Ohio EMT-Paramedic certification by the end of the new hires probationary period (Maximum of 18 months from hire date)
• A current Ohio Fire Safety Inspector certification is not required but is preferred.
• Proof of certifications must be submitted with application.
• Applicants must be able to pass all elements of the Civil Service examination process, as well as background check and post-offer psychological, polygraph and medical physical exams.
