The Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual and CNC machine tools to manufacture precision metal and plastic components according to engineering specifications. This role uses decision making to troubleshoot and adjust machinery autonomously. The Machinist works closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to ensure products meet customer requirements and production schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other machining equipment.
Monitor machine operations and decide adjustments needed to maintain product quality and efficiency.
Select appropriate cutting tools, machine speeds, and feeds for machining operations.
Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and specifications.
Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools.
Inspect finished parts to verify compliance with dimensions, tolerances, and quality standards.
Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend corrective actions.
Perform routine equipment maintenance and ensure machines are in good working order.
Maintain accurate production and quality records.
Follow all workplace safety procedures and company policies.
Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and deadlines.
Keep work areas clean and organized using established housekeeping standards.
Provide guidance and accurately respond to questions from machine operators.
Required Skills / Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, code, and specifications.
Ability to independently complete complex setups and adjust feeds and speeds.
Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
Recognize when code edits are needed and make adjustments to CNC programs as required.
Knowledge of machining processes, materials, tooling, and machine operations.
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving fractions, decimals, and basic geometry.
Commitment to quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
