Job Summary:
The Shipping Associate will be responsible for prompt and accurate package preparation, marking, labeling & processing of all Packages and Distribution Services items. The position requires effective knowledge and use of all established policies, procedures (SOP’s), international shipping policies, Dangerous Goods regulations for domestic and international shipping (49 CFR / IATA) and use of tools and equipment that is required for material movement, shipment preparations. Good customer service and communication skills are required. Maintaining and promoting positive customer relationships are essential.

Job Responsibilities
Safety
- Maintain a safe work environment free of recordable incidents for all employees and customers.
- Wear all required personnel protective equipment as required.
- Safety toed shoes or boots are required to be used at all time when handling packages.
Distribution Processes & Procedures
- Properly package, mark, label & Process of all Non-Hazardous and Hazardous items by using courier specific software (FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.).
- Track courier and accountable items (FedEx, UPS, Certified Mail, etc.).
- Coordinate and process customized packaging and other customer special requests.
- Process Non-Hazardous and Hazardous shipment via local carriers and freight forwarders.
Workflow & Quality Assurance
- Follow all processes established in the operating procedures.
- Has working knowledge of Dock Security procedures and Emergency Preparedness Operations.
Customer Service
- Follow established customer inquiry process and respond to customer needs and requests.
- Promptly inform supervisor of potential problems or customer issues.
Administration
- Maintain accurate records of customer inquiries and fulfillment of requests.
- Hours of operation are from 7:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Overtime may be necessary; however every effort will be made to provide advanced notice.
- Comply with policies on ethical standards, business practices, confidentiality, professionalism, proper business etiquette and attire.
- Maintain all shipping records including legal documentation (Shippers Declaration for Dangerous Goods, Bill of Ladings, etc.) as per primary & client company policy & Federal Dangerous Goods policy.
Job Qualifications
- Must have basic computer skills including the working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Operational knowledge of all relevant equipment within the department.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail oriented to transcribe and quality check information.
- Speaks clearly and concisely in a professional manner.
- Ability to recognize and properly classify, package, mark/label shipments of dangerous goods as defined by 49 CFR/IATA federal regulations.
- Ability to read and follow the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ability to perform Shipping and Receiving functions as defined in the Standard Operating Procedures when preparing and processing Dangerous and Non-Dangerous goods.
- Good working knowledge of shipping software used by UPS, DHL & FedEx.
- Understand International shipping requirements including all documentation requirements (Commercial Invoices, International trade, Shippers letter of Instruction).
- Must successfully complete and pass 49 CFR, IATA dangerous goods training within a timely manner (within 3 Months of start of employment).
